next stage... a potential donors journey

give thanks for all we have in life is our health! the true wealth indeed! since I since left you all, Marly aka "MIZ LIFE", had seen her renal dr. the day after my last kidney transplant / donor entry.

to our dismay, her kidney functions dropped from 16% to 12% within a month or so. it's crazy because, Marly is one of the most prepared patients with KD (kidney disease) on the planet, (so much so, she is a volunteer Bronx NY leader for the New York Organ Donors Network & advocates regularly on the need for organ donation and registration).

Yet, because there is the "potential" of a kidney donor (aka Me), they want her to hold off of prepping for "peritoneal dialysis" because it is a proceedure that takes place in the same anatomic area, & do not want to prep for something that might not need to happen. I guess this is a good thing, but it's still scary to think, that we have not real idea when her kidneys are going to pass to organ heaven! We have been told it could be 2 weeks to a whole year. great.

While I don't want to downplay the process, I can't help but think of the countless people that have gone through life without the proper education to help them prepare for lifes changes where are health classes in grammer school? why are there no classes for kids to understand what they put in their bodies DOES matter and makes a difference for longevity.

DID YOU KNOW:

NY has the lowest number of registered organ donors in the entire united states!

yes, you read that correctly!

can we join together to express what health means to us? can we, as a community, help break this cycle of mis-information, and ignorance passed on through generations of misguided media, parents that are working off of how they were raised & not with training!

think about that, if we have so many teen pregnancies in the united states & STD's run rampant, doesn't it make sense to mandate things like parenting classes in middle school?

how about nutrition classes for growing minds & bodies! what a novel thought.

Don't miss me (spazecraft) & Marly (miz life) midday this Sunday April 19th on "Circa 95" / Urban Latino Internet Radio reppin' Sohnup.com & our fight for life & creativity.

I'm getting my catscan done right now @ montifiore hospital in the boogie down Bronx, so I can't throw in any links right now.

please google any of this info, & there are links to officially register in my previous donor related posts. please subscribe to the blog, great things to come!

wow, for my CT scan I just found out...
sheesh, injection of iodine-containing dye, & no injestion of liquid. I had no idea of the proceedure, as this is my first ever catscan / CT scan. I'm sure this entire process pales in comparison to having kidney failure. a small price to pay to share the gift of life. indeed.

keep us in your thoughts!

ps a quick shout out to DOSE FC, old school graffiti writer from midtown (hells kitchen stand up!), house music producer & kidney recipient! he's creating a house music compilation supported by the NYODN to celebrate his renewed life! stay tuned for more info on that as well!

blessings!

testing one two three... a donors beginning.

I had my blood taken last week, 7 tubes to be exact. my woman needs a kidney bad, 15% of kidney functions and declining.

As it turns out, our blood type matches, they did the DNA & we are compatible. going in Monday morning for the next round of blood work & just did a 24 hour urine collection. yikes...

I've heard some real miracle stories & know some pretty incredible people that have shared their life force with someone they care about.

Peace Kyoko & Kaizo!
(Mom gave her son a piece of her liver to save him. he had his transplant @ 4 years young.

I've had the pleasure of working with Kaizo on art projects! He's full of energy & is an amazing kid!)
A feature profile on their story is forthcoming.

This is not a journey for everyone, but when you feel/hear the call, it feels more right then anything that has ever happened in your life.

I'm blessed to have seen more then lots of folks have ever or will ever see, been to places I've never thought I'd go & well, have had a great time exploring mother earth. "blessed" to say the least.

I do not have any regrets in life @ will not let my work end, we all have a special mission on this rock top, & I, my friends, am coming closer to my purpose every day.

When someone comes into your life, & touches you in ways that you never have felt, you are compelled to be your dreams & live life to your fullest.

This is my story of hope, there's much work ahead of us as a species, & we all have a story to share.

I hope I can touch you in a small way that this woman has touched me, we all need healing & we all will pass through this planet into the universe, make your life count & there can be no fear of the unknown.

this I know to be true.

April is Donate Life month everybody!

make sure you register to be an organ donor, your soul will thank you for it!

Check back for more stories of hope!, we will post a number of articles that help to demystify the fears of organ donation, with lots of links to real stories of real people & resources.
We are working on finding an organization that is an international resource for organ donation as well.
